July was a very busy month at Oak Park Care Home, with residents enjoying a range of activities and events.
On the 4th of July we hosted a celebration garden party to mark Independence Day in the USA, which of course commemorates the Declaration of Independence of the US in 1776, and is a public holiday for our friends over the water.
Lots of family and friends dropped in to Oak Park and we ate, drank and celebrated with fries, doughnuts, Coca Cola, cream soda, popcorn, Reeses, jelly beans, Hershey’s cookies, Laffy Taffy, Gobstoppers and other American sweeties.
Staff pledged £1 for a non-uniform day, and came in USA-themed clothing, mainly in the red, white and blue colours of the American flag. We raised £173 through a raffle and tombola, and the proceeds go back into the pot to support extra entertainment for our residents.
